Cocomelon

Well, I gave in. Before Ginny was born there were so many things that I thought I would NEVER do as a parent. 

No way was I letting her run around barefoot in the Chick-Fil-A play place, not a chance she was going to sit in a shopping cart without a cover and under NO circumstances was she going to watch the iPad at a restaurant. 

Once she was actually here all of my ideas of what a good parent looked like flew out the window. A good parent is love. That’s it. 

She’s played at Chick-Fil-a more than once, I lost the shopping cart cover in like 2 weeks, and today I gave her the iPad. 

One of my professors ask “who is it for, the students or you?” I have pondered that as a parent. Am I giving her the iPad to make my life easier for a minute or hers? I finally decided it’s both, we are on vacation, she is in new territory away from all of her comforts. Watching Cocomelon on the iPad while we eat dinner, I mean in the grand scheme of life can it really be that damaging? 

In NO way am I shaming parents who give their kids iPads because I totally see the benefits and I give her one too. Kids today are growing up in a world full of technology so I think it’s important. I just simply never wanted her to be a zombie on an iPad when there’s a beautiful world to explore! 

I decided though that a little Cocomelon never hurt anyone!

Exhausted. Being a young mom people often ask me "how are you doing?" Well, I am exhausted. I am going to school full time, I am momming full time and I am doing the best I can. While I know I have the luxury of not having to work during this time, it doesn't make it any less exhausting. Kids. Why are children so intimidating? Today I taught my first interactive read aloud lesson to my kindergarten mentor class (if you haven't been following along, I am a teacher in training). I read through my book and planned all weekend, but when I sat down to start reading, I froze for a moment. I just stared at this group of kiddos looking up at me and I thought "what if I mess this up!" Children are the most honest group of humans on the planet, and I think that is where my fear stemmed from. I knew they would tell me if they hated it. I also kept thinking that everything you do impacts a child, and I just hoped my lesson would make a positive and meaningful impact. Luckily, they didn't hate it. They actually did better than I could have imagined. I tasked them to think about the different topics from the book while we read. Busy. I am quick, I think the saying is "slow to anger, quick to love", well that is not me. I am just quick in general. I am quick to feel everything and sometimes I forget to slow down and take it all in. That was actually my new years resolution this year, to slow down and appreciate everything that is front of me. (I honestly think I am doing pretty good at it, and I have noticed it becoming easier to see the silver lining in all situations!) This is such a busy season of life. I am a young mom, a wife and a college student. I feel like I am racing everyday. I am racing to my daughters doctors appointment and play dates, racing to meet my school deadlines, racing to keep my social life and racing to stay on top of basic things like laundry.
